This is a wonderful. Great games and outstanding annotations. Witty, to the point and an utter joy.
The ONLY caveat is the book takes up a LOT of space on my . 45 mb. Comparable to an endgame book like Lamprecht and Muellar's Fundamental Chess Endings. Chess Informant 116 takes up 7 mb.
Get this book if you have a bit of space on your . If space is a priority, then you might want to think twice about this one.
This is a delightful book by, if not one of the greatest chess players, ever (though Tartakower was very good), certainly one of the best chess writers, ever. Tartakower's writing sparkles with a dry, laconic wit that regularly elicits a smile and a chuckle. The games are entertaining and educational even if not current with the latest theory and fashions. This edition from Russell Enterprises is very well done, and so far I've found no typos in the conversion from Descriptive Notation to Algebraic. Highly recommended, a must-have for any chess bookshelf
